Great Compatriots of my Motherland

I hail your hope and believe in her

In shambles she seems to be

In the recession she has been thrown into

But here u are praising and celebrating her on this memorable day

A day that marked the begining of so many events

Events that has shaped lives and our World.

O Motherland of mine

How do I celebrate you?

Do I shut my eyes to the sorrows you bear?

Do I open my eyes to the breakthroughs and advancements of 56 years?

Do I ignore the hunger and poverty that eats at the masses?

Do I praise the resilience of your children?

Do I lament the broken promises of your servants?

Do I  greet the untiring efforts of your loyalists?

Celebrate you I must

For your beauty

For your Strength

For your integrity that is fast eroding

For great minds that toil your lands

For your hardworking and strong people

For your resources, though unequally distributed

For the unity you once wore as a crown

For the pride I feel everytime I am called Nigerian
