THE CHRISTIAN RACE

It begun several millenia ago

From the time life begun

With trials and errors

With bricks here and there

With thoughts and decisions

With choices and actions

With sacrifices

With lives.

Of men and women

Children too

Pulling and toiling

Running the relay

Passing the batton

Remaining in the game

Sweating and bleeding

Pushing and shoving

That it never ends.

Making it past obstacles

Past barriers and prisons

Past heresies and wars

Past selfishness and pride

And all the human factors.

Alas! The batton is in my hands

I am in the race

Like they all were

I have to run

Push and shove too

Sweat and bleed

Do all it takes.

For I do this

Not just for me

But for all who have brought it this far

For the sacrifices that made this possible

For this precious gift I have been handed

For the trust they have put in me.

If I fail

I fail not just myself

Or my Lord who I am racing to

But also the countless number

Number of people

Who made this possible.

I belittle their efforts

Their sacrifices and cries

Their pain and anguish

Their trust in me.

Onward I push

With no thoughts for myself

Or the pain I feel

But for the sacrifice

That put me in the race.
