In the  Middle age                                                                                                                                         At a time when religion began to be contemplated in a new way                                                       An Order was born                                                                                                                                       Toulouse its birth place
An offspring of the Spanish Priest                                                                                           Dominic de Guzman he was called
Father Dominic we now call him

Of him were made diverse runnels                                                                                                           whereby the garden Catholic is watered                                                                                             combating heresy                                                                                                                                   Preaching the Gospel                                                                                                                             preaching right doctrine
so that more living its plantation stands

Names we are called                                                                                                                                     Domini canis – Dogs of the Lord                                                                                                           Black friars in England                                                                                                                       Jacobins in France
but Order of Preachers we are

To the age long call                                                                                                                                     made by our Lord
we have all responded
Nuns, Friars, Lay men and women, Sisters, and youth
to preach and take the word to the ends of the earth

We all stand
for VERITAS – TRUTH
and on our four pillars
Prayer, preaching, study and community
with PREACHING as our common bond

For 800 years                                                                                                                                                       we have stood
in different corners of the earth
in Africa too

Men, women and youths
not alone
but with God

We Rejoice
we celebrate
Yes! We celebrate
battles won
flame that never quenched
heritage that did not die

In praise we have blessed
in contemplation we have discovered
in study we have learnt
in community we have stood
in prayer we have conquered
in preaching we have healed
in God we are here.
