VOLUNTEER STORY #6
After last week’s post, I got a lot of feedbacks that opened my eyes to a new angle to Volunteerism, which I will share with you in the near future. But for today and this week, I was lucky to get someone I see as ‘the Volunteer on fire.’ She is a Pharmacist, and can volunteer for Africa. I have had the rare privilege of being her partner on some of her volunteer adventures.

What do you do?
I am currently the Territory Manager/Relationship Officer for ProNov – a flagship project of Opacus Technologies Limited.
When did you become a Volunteer?
I started my volunteer journey in 2016 when I volunteered for OrpahnsCorp an organization that carries out medical outreaches in Kano state.
Why did you start volunteering?
As I stated earlier, my first experience was for a health outreach in Kano, and I did it because I believe everyone deserve access to good healthcare services, and that includes those in remote villages. Subsequently, I delved into developmental work because I wanted to contribute quota to make life better for community members.
How many Volunteer experiences have you had?
I have had a number of volunteer experiences that I can’t even keep tab of, because you know when you are doing things you love so much, you don’t even have to keep count.
What is your favorite thing about volunteering?
My favorite thing about volunteering is that I can be myself, while doing what I like to do. And yes, I also love the collaboration and networking. All these makes volunteering so much fun every time I do it.
What would you say to prospective Volunteer?
Volunteering pays one way or the other. It either makes you happy because it’s what you love to do like me, or getting you paid. Yes, there are volunteer opportunities where you get paid a token. Either way, find what you have passion for and volunteer for that it. I must add, volunteering is also an easy way to get that dream job you have long for. Begin small and dream big.
I heard it loud and clear – Volunteering is fun and an easy route to that dream job. Thank you Rah for taking to share your story.
