VOLUNTEER STORY #5

Hey guys its another week already and this week, I bring you the story of a habitual Volunteer (like me) who I have been privileged to work with on several volunteerism opportunities.

He works in Rigasa – one of the largest communities in Kaduna state, northern Nigeria.

Full name: Yusha’u Muhammad Abubakar

Twitter handle: @m_yushau

What do you do?

I am the Founder and Program Coordinator for Enhancing Communities Action for Peace and Better Health Initiatives (e-CAPH), a local civil society organization focusing on Gender, Sexual and Reproductive Health for women and girls, Peace-building and promoting good governance in Kaduna State. Thus, I am passionate about working with marginalized populations to advocate for their rights, improved access to services and an increase in opportunities especially for women and girls.

When did you become a Volunteer?

I became a volunteer in 2006, when I volunteered with the Rigasa Student Association (RSA) and later in 2009 I joined ENR, where I volunteered as the Igabi LGA coordinator under the Society Tackling AIDS through Right (STAR) project.

How many Volunteer experiences have you had?

Truth is, I can’t give the exact number of volunteer experiences I have had. But I can say that since started in the year 2006, I have continued to volunteer till date.

Why did you start volunteering?

My volunteer journey started because I have passion for making the world better place for us.

What is your favorite thing about volunteering?

My favorite? Volunteering makes me happy and enhances my love for my community.

What would you say to prospective Volunteer?

I would encourage prospective Volunteers to volunteer and do it with passion, because that’s the only way they will appreciate it. In the end, they will be glad that they did.

Amazing! Thank you Yusha’u.

You have heard it, PASSION plus the desire to MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE, can also be your recipe for a great volunteer experience.

    How do you change?
You must be part of the change.
    Been a Volunteer… You’re Automatically a Leader!
To a good leader you must be Sagacious and ensure a political Sagarcity to your followers.
