START: Stop Waiting, Start Living

It’s 2025, and we are not holding back anymore! This year, I made a promise to myself to START—no more overthinking, no more doubting, no more waiting for the “perfect” time. I know you’ve got that idea, dream, course, or passion project lingering in your mind, but fear, doubt, or even shame have been keeping you stuck. It’s time to break free from that cycle and just START! 

Why are we waiting?

We’ve all been there—dreaming about starting something new but letting hesitation hold us back. Maybe you’re worried about failing or what people will think. Maybe you’re scared that it’s too much of a reach or that you’re not ready. But here’s the thing: no one ever feels completely ready. If you keep waiting for the stars to align, you’ll never get moving. 

The reality is that starting is the hardest part. Once you take that first step, the momentum builds. Think about it: most successful people didn’t start when they felt ready—they just started, learned on the go, and grew from there. So, why not you? 

Grow beyond your fears 

You know what’s crazy? We often doubt our own potential while cheering on others doing exactly what we dream of. Why not give yourself that same energy? Growing beyond your fears means allowing yourself to be a beginner. Let yourself be imperfect, messy, and unsure. Just begin. You’ll figure it out as you go, and you’ll get better with each step. 

One thing I’ve realized is that the best lessons come from simply trying. Whether it’s launching that business, signing up for that course, or speaking up more confidently, each effort pushes you closer to your dreams. The growth happens when you put yourself out there, despite the doubts. 

The World needs your boldness 

Imagine how different life would be if you just STARTED when that idea first sparked. Now’s the time to bring your boldness to the forefront. Let this year be the one where you stop worrying about looking silly or failing and just go for it. The world needs women like us—fearless, passionate, and relentless. 

My personal journey of starting 

One of the ways I’ve put this mindset into action is by finally starting something I’ve been putting off for almost a decade—my social enterprise, Volunteer+ (V+). For years, I envisioned creating a platform that connects passionate individuals with meaningful volunteer opportunities, while also advocating for the spirit of volunteerism across Africa. But I kept holding back—doubting my ability, worrying about the challenges, and fearing it wouldn’t be good enough. 

This year, I decided enough was enough. I took that leap, embraced the uncertainty, and gave life to V+. It hasn’t been easy, but every step forward feels like progress, and every little win feels like victory. Looking back, I wonder why I waited so long. The fear was just an illusion, and the doubts were never as strong as my passion. 

Starting V+ has shown me that we grow not by dreaming, but by doing. By putting ourselves out there and daring to take that first step, we open doors to possibilities we never imagined.
