VOLUNTEER STORY #3

Welcome. I trust you are having a great week cox I am. Like I said in my last post, our Volunteer for this week on the #VSP project is a Politician and the first male Volunteer to be featured on the project.

Let’s hear his story…

 Full Name: Aminu Yusuf

Twitter: @AminuYusuf4

What do you do Aminu?

I am a staff of the Zealous Global Transport Limited Kaduna, a haulage company that transports petroleum products under Total Nigeria Plc; a Politician, and have contested twice for Councillor-ship in 2012 and 2018 under the PDP in Kaduna North Local Government Area; and a Masters student, studying  Business administration (MBA) at the Kaduna State University (KASU).

How many volunteer experiences have you had?

Interestingly, I have had three volunteer experiences that have changed my life. First, I volunteered for the Kaduna State Sports Festival (KADA Games), and then I have been volunteering for Amnesty International (on Human Rights) and A.U.S Foundation (on Health, Safety and Security) since 2017 and 2018 respectively.

When did you become a Volunteer?

I started volunteering over a decade ago in 2008 during the Kaduna State Sports Festival.

Why did you start volunteering?

In 2008, I usually watched football at the Murtala Muhammad Square. On one those days, I noticed the traffic difficulty pedestrians were going through. Motorists were impatient, making it hard for people to cross the road, so I decided to step-in and solve the problem.

What is your favorite thing about volunteering?

I always enjoy the fact that every experience solves a problems and provides the opportunity to meet new people, building friendships and expand my network.

What would you say to prospective Volunteers?

To every prospective Volunteer, I say this – Volunteering is the thing to do. Understand community needs, be patient with the people and other volunteers and you will make so much impact.

Wow! Volunteering for over a decade? This is inspiring. Thank you Aminu for sharing your story.

Next week, we will hear from a young lady who is inspiring and mentoring young women. Remember, if you have volunteered (anywhere in the world) and wish to share your story, you can. Leave a comment and you will get featured on this project. Have a great week!
