WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SIX CLASSES?

After a long strenuous chore this morning, I was really hungry and tried to decide what to eat (I am an indecisive-eater but loves variety). Perusing the fridge made matters worse. I picked my phone and decided to ask the question I usually get from most friends when they call, ‘what did you eat?’ I asked about 5 friends and none had eaten. Looking at my watch, I discovered it was some minutes to 11am (past breakfast time). Frowning, I made oat which I had with moi-moi(from the fridge). I just could not get the thought of ‘no breakfast’ out of my head.

Chilling at a barbecue joint with my girlfriends this evening, I asked the same question: ‘what did you have for breakfast?’, everyone chorused ‘NOTHING’. You can imagine the shock on my face. I went further to ask: ‘why?’ I got responses like ‘I forgot’ but most said, ‘I am watching it’.

Just what happened to the culture of having breakfast before we leave the house? Breakfast has been identified as the most important meal of the day. Why do we skip it then? Many people (especially Ladies) believe skipping breakfast will help them shed weight, we hear and see so many weight loss formulas this days. Some others skip some of the required nutrients or have practically forgotten what we all learnt in Health Education about the six classes of food and how every meal should contain each of these classes.

The Six Classes: Carbohydrate (for energy); Protein (to repair tissues and build the body); Fats and Oil (for insulation and energy); Vitamins (prevents diseases); Mineral (for maintaining good health) and Water. Like a soldier gets kitted before a battle, so must we each day with all the above nutrients, for the day’s battle. And like a soldier replaces cartridge, so must we,  by drink water and supplying our body system with the right food to enhance better output and promote good health.

I know we have very little time to eat especially in the morning, but when we consider the benefits of having breakfast and eating right, we might spare those last few minutes and have a healthy meal before dashing off to the work.

Remember, eating right helps:

– Disease prevention

– Weight loss

– Energy boost

– Improve mood

– Improve longevity etc.

If a healthy meal does all these, what does the eight-wonder WATER-DRINKING do?
